The Filipino Veil and Cord Ceremony: A Lesson in Unity

Filipino weddings often include two beautiful rituals known as the Veil Ceremony and the Cord Ceremony. During the Veil Ceremony, a veil is draped over the bride and groom, symbolizing that they are now covered together as one family. The Cord Ceremony follows, with a decorative cord arranged in a figure-eight shape around the couple, representing unity and an unbreakable bond.

What fascinates me about these traditions is how clearly they communicate a central truth about marriage: two lives are becoming intertwined. The veil symbolizes protection and unity. The cord symbolizes connection and permanence. Together they create a powerful image of partnership.

In many ways, modern relationships struggle because couples underestimate how interconnected their lives eventually become.
